Assoc.prof.dr. João Carlos Vicente Sarmento
University of Minho

He obtained the Habilitation in Human Geography in 2014 from the University of Lisbon, Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning, a PhD in Geography in 2001 from the University College Cork, Ireland, a Master’s degree in 1996 from the same University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography in 1994 from the University of Porto, Portugal.
He is an Associate Professor at the University of Minho, a Researcher at the Communication and Society Research Centre, and a Correspondent Member of the Academy of Sciences of Lisbon. Currently, he is the Vice-Dean for Internationalisation and Research of the Social Sciences Faculty of the University of Minho.

He has published 55 articles in specialised journals, 50 book chapters, and authored, edited or co-edited 16 books. He has supervised 9 PhD theses as well as supervised 35 Master’s dissertations. He has received 3 awards and has coordinated or participated in 12 research projects.
